Men’s Sheds Canada is seeking a Treasurer to join our national board of Directors. This is a remote, volunteer governance role supporting a movement that strengthens men’s health, connection, and community across Canada.
As Treasurer, you’ll guide MSC’s financial stewardship, ensure clear and transparent reporting, and help build long term sustainability for a fast growing national not-for profit organization.
As Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a key leadership role in supporting the Board’s governance responsibilities and overseeing the organization’s financial accountability.
About the Treasurer Role
Working collaboratively with Board Directors, committees, and MSC leadership, the Treasurer will help:
- Support strong financial stewardship and long-term sustainability
- Assist in developing, reviewing and monitoring financial statements, budgets, financial controls, and key financial reporting
- Annual audit oversight
- Support governance best practices, Board processes, and organizational accountability
- Assist in ensuring accurate Board records, meeting documentation, and policy oversight
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational growth
- Strengthen community relationships and support MSC’s mission and values
- Advocate for men’s health and well-being nationally.
This is a governance role and does not involve the day-to-day operations of the organization. The time commitment is estimated to be between eight to twelve hours a month, including serving as the Chair of the Finance Committee.
We Are Seeking Individuals with Experience, Knowledge, or Interest In
- Finance, accounting, audit, or financial oversight
- Board governance and policy development
- Supporting MSC’s vision and mission: connection, community, and men’s well-being
- Not-for-profit or community-based organizations
- Risk management and organizational sustainability
- Community leadership and stakeholder engagement
Professional accounting designation and financial management experience are required.
Previous board experience is considered a strong asset.
Commitment
- Volunteer position (unpaid)
- Board term: Two-year term, renewable
- Board meetings: Every two months, with Board committee meetings in between as required
- Estimated commitment: Approximately 8-12 hours per month
- Orientation and ongoing governance support provided
