“Somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. Three very magical ingredients to what a Shed is all about.”
— Robert Goluch, Men’s Shed Canada President and Squamish Men’s Shed member
About Men’s Sheds
If you’re finding your days a little quieter than they used to be, a Men’s Shed can be a practical way to stay active and involved. Often compared to a backyard workshop — a place where guys get together to tinker and talk — Men’s Sheds are built around the idea that men relate best when working side by side. Conversation happens naturally, confidence grows, and a sense of purpose follows.
No two Sheds are the same. You might build or fix things, garden, cook, walk together, explore music or technology — it’s up to the Shedders. Many Sheds also choose to give back through local volunteer projects. What all Sheds around the world share is a relaxed, inclusive atmosphere where you can feel useful, valued, and part of something local.
If there isn’t a Men’s Shed in your part of Saskatchewan yet, starting one is possible — and Men’s Sheds Canada can help you take the first steps, with both practical advice and startup funding.
A Growing Movement — With Room to Grow in Saskatchewan
What started as a grassroots idea in Australia in the 1990s has grown into a global movement. Today, Men’s Sheds exist in more than 15 countries — and Canada is part of that momentum. Across the country, there are now 170+ Men’s Sheds, with new ones forming every month. Men’s Sheds Canada was established in 2022 to support this growth — helping existing Sheds thrive and making it easier for new Sheds to get started.
Looking ahead, we have an ambitious goal: 1,000 Men’s Sheds in Canada by 2032. Reaching that goal means growing in Saskatchewan, where strong communities and a spirit of helping out already run deep. Whether you’re interested in joining a Shed or helping start a new one in your community, Men’s Sheds Canada is here to support the next phase of growth in Saskatchewan.
